CHUM provides core social safety net programs which include emergency food, shelter, advocacy, and outreach to over 7,000 hungry, homeless and low-income people each year. Housing advocates and street case managers provide stabilization services through case management programs for homeless or imminently homeless families and single adults. CHUM’s congregational outreach and community organizing efforts center on social justice issues relating to homelessness, poverty and employment.

August 3-7 ~ Vacation Bible School Dinner for kids and families @ 5:30p.m.. VBS @ 6:00-8:00 p.m.  Cost is $5 per child

August 5 ~ Neighborhood Night Out.  Root Beer Floats in Church Parking Lot from 6-8 p.m.

August 9 ~ Volunteer Opportunity @ Domiano Center preparing and serving lunch 8:30-1:30p.m. Sign up sheet on the kiosk

August 10 ~  Annual Church Picnic. Service will be at 11:00 with a potluck to follow at Rice Lake Pavilion, 4137 Stockholm Rd- rain or shine.

September 7 ~ Rally Sunday.  Stay tuned for updates.

Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Duluth is seeking a Church Secretary/Administrative Assistant, part time Choir Director and Youth Director. 

Secretary/ Administrative Assistance: Job requirements include excellent organizational management and communication skills.  Strong interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task necessary.  Proficiency in computer skills (Word, Publisher, PowerPoint), previous office experience and faith background necessary. Job duties include planning and conducting Wednesday night programming, supervise participation in service projects, coordinate with other church boards for such activities as serving at the Union Gospel Mission, Adopt a Family and other events open to youth and adults; organize, participate with and lead youth in programmed activities such as retreats, camping trips, youth gatherings of the ELCA, mission trips, etc.; organize and post activities on the youth calendar in the church  at least one month in advance; serve on Sunday mornings as Youth Forum education leader and help with worship as needed.  Hours other than on Wednesday and Sunday are flexible, averaging 20 hours per week.  Submit cover letter and resume to Executive Director, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 410 North Arlington Avenue, Duluth, Minnesota 55811 or email information to Pastor Mike DeKraai at, dekma50@gmail.com.

Keep Saving your Shiny Paper! You may drop off your shiny paper on Sunday mornings, or during office hours, in the bins located in the lower level entry way. 

 Acceptable items: magazines, catalogs, shiny newspaper inserts (such as Target, Kohls, JC Penney, etc.), white copy/office paper

 Unacceptable items: newspapers, garbage, paper bags or plastic bags, wet material, envelopes with plastic windows, colored paper, plastic, phone books

If you have any free time and would like to help with this project, please call Paul or Maureen Gunderson.   Many hands will make lighter work! Thank you!!
